Sounds, the App that Lets You Share Songs on Instagram

Jonathan Blum

The number of social networks and the way they are evolving to improve user experiences and interact with their followers is astonishing. For example, we all know that Instagram is used for sharing images and videos of 15 seconds or less, and has continued to offer more functions in comparison with other networks in order to remain competitive. As part of their continual evolution, they recently added the option to send direct messages to users as well as allowing ads on their newsfeed like Facebook and Twitter

And that’s not all, their latest feature, called Sounds, is complementary app that allows user to share songs. It works using APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) connected to users’ Spotify, SoundCloud or Itunes accounts. Using the app, you can search for the song you want to share and select it. Sounds then extracts the album art and song so that it can be viewed by your followers, following the same 15-second format Instagram uses for videos as a maximum reproduction time, and even allows you to select the specific segment of the song you want to share.

But Sounds does even more than that. The app also provides suggestions of new artists you might like according to what you usually listen to, which represents an opportunity for new groups looking for spaces to promote their music.

All this makes it very possible that the app will transform into a completely different platform in the near future. The creators of the app have shared their intention to expand Sounds into an evolved version of Shaazam (a song recognition app), which will also allow users to share, listen to and identify songs, and why not?, even let you buy concert tickets.

Although the app is currently only available in the United States and Europe, it won’t be long before it arrives to Latin America.
