Jott, the App that Allows You to Send Text Messages Even Without an Internet Connection

Jonathan Blum

The technological world is incredible! Platforms such as whatsapp, snapchat, line, etc., allow us to always be in touch no matter where we are. But what happens when we have limited reception, or we don’t have mobile data coverage or when we are in a crowded place like a concert or at a stadium? How many of you have had your cell phone collapse, making it impossible to send or receive messages and calls?

This is how Jott came about. This app is available for Android and iOS and allows us to chat with our contacts even when we are not connected to wifi or do not have access to mobile data. The way it works is very simple: all you have to do is download the application which automatically gives you the option to link to Instagram or create a new account. Once you have done that, it will detect which of your contacts use it and it will suggest them as friends in order to start conversations with them.

Another interesting Jott function is that not only does it allow you to create your own groups, but it also protects your privacy like no other app. While technically, all people connected with you on Instagram can contact you, the platform allows you to control whether or not you give them access. It shows you how many friends you have in common with them and gives you the option to accept or reject them. You can also flag people if you are being harassed and you can even tell what recipients do with the images you send. For example, when you send a photo with any other application you cannot know if it was saved or if they took a screen shot of it. Jott has a function that detects all of these types of activities and allows you to access this information.

While this app is new, I think it could be very useful for many people, even as a networking tool.
