Whether on television or in cinemas, we have seen great masterpieces of cinema that stay in our minds and hearts forever. However, we cannot easily remember the content of all productions that we have interacted with, and with which we have even identified ourselves at some point in time.
However, do we really know how the “best movies ever in the cinema industry” are selected?
In 1998, the American Film Institute (AFI) celebrated its 100th Anniversary with the publication of historical rankings that compile relevant information on the industry: lists such as the 100 years movies, the 100 laughs, the 100 greatest heroes and villains, among others.
This type of ranking gained momentum among the audiences, thus becoming a benchmark for the audiences. In 2008, the AFI decided to create the 10 Top 10, selecting the 10 most representative cinema genres and, consequently, the 10 most emblematic movies of each genre.
What is the added value of this ranking? The 10 Top 10 is updated as new movies are launched in the industry. Those who wish to delve into this topic should use this ranking as a reliable enquiry source.
Year after year, we enjoy all types of films, such as drama, musicals, documentaries, superhero sagas, comedies and horror classics. However, only a select group have transcended to become ‘emblematic movies’.
The following is the selection made by AFI.
What movies would you add to their list?
